Trezor Setup

Complete Setup Guide for Your New Trezor

Follow these official steps to unbox, set up, and secure your Trezor hardware wallet and make your first secure transfer.

Start the Guide

Step 1: Unboxing and Physical Check

Upon receiving your Trezor, the first and most critical step is to inspect the packaging for any signs of tampering. The box is sealed with a holographic sticker that must be intact. If you notice any damage, do not use the device and contact Trezor support immediately.

Inside the box, you will find the Trezor device, a USB cable, a getting started guide, and at least two recovery seed cards. These cards are for writing down your crucial recovery seed, which is the only backup of your wallet.

Step 2: Installing Trezor Suite

To manage your Trezor, you must use the official Trezor Suite application. It is available as a desktop app and a web-based version. For the highest security, it is recommended to download and install the desktop application.

Go to trezor.io/start and follow the prompts to download the software for your operating system. Connect your Trezor device to your computer via the provided USB cable and launch the Trezor Suite application.

Step 3: Create Your New Wallet

Trezor Suite will guide you through the process of creating a new wallet. This involves generating a unique 12 or 24-word recovery seed. This seed is the master key to your funds, and it must be written down precisely on the provided cards.

  • **Write Down the Words:** The Trezor screen will display the words one by one. You must write them down on your recovery seed cards. Do **not** take a photo or store them on any digital device.
  • **Verify the Seed:** Trezor will ask you to confirm a few of the words to ensure you have written them correctly.
  • **Store Securely:** Once confirmed, store your recovery seed cards in a secure, fireproof, and waterproof location. This is your only backup.

Step 4: Set Your PIN and Passphrase

Trezor will prompt you to set a PIN. This PIN is required every time you connect your device. The PIN is entered on your computer's screen in a shuffled layout, with the numbers corresponding to the position on your Trezor's screen.

For advanced security, you can also enable a **passphrase**. The passphrase is an additional layer of security that creates a hidden wallet, making your funds even more secure.

Step 5: Your First Cryptocurrency Transfer

Receive Cryptocurrency

To receive crypto, navigate to the "Receive" tab in Trezor Suite. The application will generate a new receiving address for you. A crucial security step is to **verify this address on your Trezor's screen** before sharing it or using it. The address displayed on your device is guaranteed to be correct.

Copy the address and use it on the exchange or wallet from which you are sending funds.

Send Cryptocurrency

To send crypto, go to the "Send" tab. Enter the recipient's address and the amount. When you are ready to confirm, Trezor Suite will prompt you to physically confirm the transaction on your device.

Your Trezor's screen will display the recipient address and the transaction amount. You must carefully **verify this information** against the details you intended to send. Once verified, use the buttons on your device to confirm and sign the transaction. This physical confirmation is what makes your Trezor so secure.

Congratulations!

You have successfully set up your Trezor and are now ready to manage your crypto assets with confidence and security.
